Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
